Packaging Projects

The Package Project item on the Main Menu. The Package Project item on the Main Menu.

If you want to send a project you're working on to another user of the Map Suite GIS Editor, or take a project to another computer to work on it there, you will want to package your project. The packaging process collects all of the data necessary for the project to open and puts it together in a standard Zip file. Other GIS Editor users can then extract the contents of the Zip file and open your project on another computer running the Map Suite GIS Editor.

Packaging a Project

To package a project, first open the project that you want to package. Then open the GIS Editor Main Menu and select “Package Project”.

You will be prompted with a standard Save As dialog, where you can choose the location and filename for your packaged Zip file. Once you have done this, click the Save button and your project will be packaged and saved. Any layer data that you have loaded into your project will be copied into a subfolder called [Project Name]_Data, where [Project Name] is the name of your project file.

You are now free to distribute the resulting Zip file or move it to another computer.

Opening a Packaged Project

To open a project that was packaged by the GIS Editor, simply extract the contents of the Zip file into a folder on your computer. Then open the project file (the one with a .tgproj extension) in your copy of the GIS Editor.

Notes

Please be aware that if you have loaded many complex layers into your project, the packaged Zip file may be quite large (potentially tens or hundreds of megabytes, depending on your data).
