Cloud Based Map Data

Cloud Based Map Data are sets of data that are rendered in the cloud and then delivered over the Internet to your GIS Editor application. The benefit to Cloud Based Map Data is that these files are constantly at their most up-to-date versions. You can access these files by using the Data Repository. The Cloud files are labeled with an icon of a cloud and is either labeled Cloud Layers or Third Party Layers. Additionally, the Base Maps are also Cloud Based Data.

Base Maps

Base Maps are a special kind of map data. Similar to a mosaic, they are made up of pre-rendered tile images which are delivered over the Internet and then stitched together by the GIS Editor to form a coherent map. You can zoom and pan around a base map just like you would a vector or raster layer. However, base maps contain no attribute data and cannot be styled, queried, transformed or modified. Think of them as a backdrop to use behind your more detailed vector or raster layer data.

Cloud Layers

The Cloud Layers provides free public domain geographic data from the National Atlas, Natural Earth, Open Street Map, and Zillow Neighborhoods. Each of these provides extensive data that can be added to your projects. Be aware that map data is loaded at an as needed basis for better performance, and thus, while viewing map data from a Cloud Layer, only data that is in the local cache will be shown.

Third Party Layer: Boundary Solutions

Boundary Solutions provides a large parcel map database from several places throughout the United States. When you add the Parcel Atlas, a dialog box will open asking if you want a free 15 day trial to all of their parcel information. If you do not wish to sign up, you can click cancel and sample parcel data for Frisco, TX will be available for you to use for free. Each parcel feature provides data for it's address, property value, owner names, and much more.
