Set Spatial Reference Information

The GIS Editor has the ability to reference a raster image file that isn't Geo-referenced and place it on a location in your map. Image Raster Files are most commonly .gif, .jpg, .png, and .bmp file types.

Video Overview

Adding an Image Raster File

Before we begin selecting our image, we first need to find out where we want to put our image. The way we do that is by finding the X, Y coordinates for both the upper left and lower right corners of where we would like to place our image. Place your mouse on the first corner and look at the coordinates on the lower left hand side of your screen, then we do the same for the lower right hand side and take note of it.

Setting the Spatial Reference Information

Now we are ready to add our file. Using the Add Layers drop down menu located on the ribbon bar, select “Image Raster Files” and a windows explorer window will open up for you to browse to and select your image that you wish to add. Once we have it selected and click open, a dialog box will appear to set the spatial reference information. Here we input our upper left X, Y coordinates and our lower right X, Y coordinates, the image width and height is already calculated for you. Now that we are done, our image will be displayed in your project under a new layer.
