Google Earth
Once your layers have been styled to your preferences, you can export them to Google Earth using the Google Earth tool in the Tools Tab. This will bring all of your visible layers in the editor straight to Google Earth and makes sharing visual data easy. There are three options when exporting layers to Google Earth:
- Save as Raster KML
- Save as Vector KML
- Open in Google Earth
If you do not have Google Earth, you can download it here for free.
Save as Raster KML
This option saves your current map view and visible layers on your computer that can be opened through Google Earth. Raster files may become pixelated if the view that you are saving is too small. If you need a large, detailed view of your layers in Google Earth, a vector file may be better.
Save as Vector KML
This option saves your current map view and visible layers on your computer that can be opened through Google Earth. Vector files do not become pixelated when getting to a higher zoom level on Google Earth, but performance may be affected by slower computers.
Open in Google Earth
This option opens Google Earth to your current map view and places your visible layers on the map. This option always opens as a Raster file so your layer shapes may be pixelated at certain zoom levels. Note that this is a temporary file and if you wish to save it, you will have to do so in Google Earth.
